France, United Kingdom 1995 101 mins. In French, English with English subtitles

A celebration of cinema at one hundred years of age, this broad and whimsical comedy stars screen legend Michel Piccoli as cinema-in-human-form who seeks to recreate iconic moments from the history of the medium as a form of remembrance. Featuring myriad vignettes full of utter charm and hilarity, stars of the current moment (including Catherine Deneuve, Jeanne Moreau, Sandrine Bonnaire, Alain Delon, Hanna Schygulla, Robert De Niro, and Harrison Ford) re-create the scenarios of yore in Varda’s utterly charming happy-birthday to cinema.

The Northwest Film Center recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands. These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River. We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities—past, present, future—and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
