Directed by Anna Marziano

Italy 2017 53 mins. In Italian

One of this year’s most singularly gorgeous films (shot on both 16mm and 8mm celluloid), this experimentally minded documentary focuses on the myriad forms love can take when freed from the shackles of monogamy. Marziano criss-crosses Europe and India in search of different forms that love (and loss) can take, producing a shape-shifting, allusive document that takes as its premise that everyone has their own way of loving, and that no two ways are quite alike. Beyond the One is a film to live in, a testament to love and its centrality in our lives, and a beautiful visual and aural collage.

The Northwest Film Center recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands. These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River. We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities—past, present, future—and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
