Portland 2013 75 mins. In English

VISITING ARTIST—Scott Ballard, who has worked extensively as a cinematographer and short filmmaker, follows up his first feature WELCOMING DEPARTURE (2012) with this story of a young recluse. A STANDING STILL revolves around Allison (Sara Robbin), who works as a fire lookout in the forest and struggles with the future in the midst of loss and displacement. When she is called down early for a medical emergency with her father, she is forced to face the present and the past that has led her there. Shot on location in Portland; Cannon Beach; Bellingham, Washington; and the Willamette National Forest.

The Northwest Film Center recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands. These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River. We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities—past, present, future—and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
