Tuesdays | 6:30-9:30pm | 10 Sessions

Start, finish, or resume your feature screenplay or television series pilot in this small and intensive class setting. Through lecture and instructor feedback, you will move beyond the basics to engage in the heavy lifting of plot construction, character development, and visual storytelling. Learn to write like a director directs! Students will take aim on completing a first draft by the end of class—or emerge with a solid game plan for achieving one. Weekly assignments will require writing about 5-12 pages, so prepare to spend at least five hours each week outside of class time on your assignments.

  • Character revelation and behavior

  • Exposition
  • Subtext
  • Effective use of flashbacks, dreams, and montages
  • Revisions

Registration is by Instructor Approval.

To request enrollment: Please submit a 5 to 10- page writing sample that is representative of your best work and understanding of the craft. If you have previously taken Screenwriting Fundamentals with Randall Jahnson, you are welcome to submit a sample that has already been shared in that class.  

Submit it to by Monday, September 9 at 5pm.  The subject line should say “Advanced Screenwriting Request”.  Include a statement of your interest in taking the class, two paragraphs maximum.

Notifications will be made via email no later than Monday, September 16.
