Regularly Offered Classes & Workshops
Here is a handy short list of some of our regularly offered classes and workshops. Most are offered at least twice a year, but some are offered three times a year or even every quarter. Please note that the listed tuition fees are subject to change at any time. Check out our FAQ page for more info on when classes start and when to register.
Full Term Classes
Art of Filmmaking I (12 weekday evening sessions plus two weekend sessions): $1,195
Shoot and edit two beginning-level short films as an introduction to visual, cinematic storytelling. This is a comprehensive overview of film production and analysis for the beginner who wants to develop their eye as a media artist. Tuition includes all needed production equipment and access to the Film Center Edit Lab.
Digital Cinematography (9 weekday evening sessions): $795
Develop an eye for shot composition and framing while shooting in a variety of situations. Gain confidence in your artistic ability and skill as a camera operator. Tuition includes all needed camera and lighting equipment.
Screenwriting Fundamentals (10 weekday evening sessions): $765
Through exercises and practice, learn to express plot, character, and conflict in cinematic terms. Develop an ear for authentic dialogue and gain an understanding of when and where to employ it. The goal is for students to outline and write the first act of a feature screenplay and/or short film script by the end of the class.

Arri Alexa Camera Operation (3 hour weekend session): $95
The basics of shooting with our flagship digital cinema camera. Known for its dynamic range, color rendition and reliability, this camera is available for rent to independent filmmakers.
Basic Lighting (4 hour weekend session): $65
Use basic light kits to dramatically vary the mood and quality of a scene. This workshop is highly recommended for all renters of our lighting gear. Often taken with Canon XA-10 Camera Operation.
Digital Editing: Final Cut Pro X (Friday/Saturday 7 hour sessions): $365
Introduction to editing styles, concepts, and techniques using Final Cut Pro X. Bring your own footage or use provided footage. Get comfortable with the software, and editing workflow. Tuition includes free access to Film Center Edit Lab for a week following the last class.
16mm Bolex Camera Operation (3 hour weekend session): $55
Explore the unique potential of 16mm film as an analog storytelling tool. Learn the basics of loading, metering and selecting appropriate film stock. Handling of the cameras will be extensive.
