July 20, 2020 – July 29, 2020

July 20-24, 2020 + July 27-29, 2020 / 10am-4pm

Please note: This class was previously called Media Arts Academy for Teens.

This is the ultimate destination for film-interested teens.  Maybe film/art/design school is on your mind, or you simply want to stretch yourself, experiment with your creativity, and experience the excitement (and challenges) of creating an entire dramatic film from scratch.

This is your opportunity to:

  • Learn with award-winning film professionals who love to teach
  • Be part of a film-interested creative team
  • Use professional digital cameras, lights and microphones
  • Learn industry standard software and protocols
  • Get directly involved in scripting, casting, directing, working with actors, shooting, lighting, sound recording, editing, and more!

Bring several script ideas to the first day. We’ll work as a group to examine what makes a story great and consider the challenges of producing different storylines. Class ideas will come together into several original screenplays. We’ll divide into creative teams and production will begin.

We spend the first week focused on scripting, casting, rehearsal, storyboarding and filming. Then we move into the digital editing lab to edit the scenes and add music, effects and titles.

Come prepared to work hard and learn an amazing amount! Expect at least one seriously long shooting day during the class.  If you are new to film, bring an open mind and your passions and we’ll take it from there.  If you are already making films, we’ll help professionalize your skills and support your aspirations.

The camp culminates with a screening of the class films for family and friends in the Film Center’s state-of-the-art Whitsell Auditorium (inside the Portland Art Museum) at 3:30pm on the final day.

Tuition includes all equipment and supplies.  Snacks provided. Please bring a lunch.

Technology: Canon XA-15/XA-20 cameras, Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser ME66 microphones, Lowell lights and Adobe Premiere editing

Enrollment Limit: 14.
