DIRECTOR: Alicia Scherson
CHILE
Christina, a poor young indigenous Mapuche girl who nurses an elderly man, finds a suitcase thrown into a dumpster. Discovering the identity of its owner, the sad, middle–class Tristan, whose relationship has just collapsed, she secretly trails him around the streets of Santiago, smokes his cigarettes and visits his former home. There's nothing sinister in her behavior; it reflects curiosity, empathy, a fertile imagination, and a desire to cross the class divide and explore a world just beyond her reach. Scherson's charming, witty and unpredictable urban fairy tale about lost loves and missed connections in contemporary Santiago won the Best First Film Prizes at the Havana Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival and marks her as a talent to watch.
