Students seeking a structured track toward a desired goal in filmmaking may opt to formalize their study toward a Certificate of Completion. Individuals who are interested in pursuing an optional Certificate of Completion may work at their own pace, selecting from one of three graduated levels at which to study. All three levels require the same four introductory courses: ART OF FILMMAKING, SHOOTING DIGITAL VIDEO, DIGITAL VIDEO EDITING, and SOUND RECORDING & POST. Any student considering the possibility of pursuing one of the Certificates of Completion should begin their studies with one of these four courses. Students may declare their intent to pursue a Certificate at any time (e.g. upon initial enrollment or after courses have been completed) by filling out a simple enrollment form with the Registrar. There is no formal application process. Participation is by interest. Any course completed with the letter grade of B or higher may count toward requirements. Students may change from one level to another as they wish. At all three levels, students must complete a series of core classes, pursue electives, participate in a given number of visiting artist and/or focused topic workshops, and complete a final project sequence which culminates in a public screening of their work. For more information, contact classes@nwfilm.org. LEVEL ONE teaches the basics of production while advancing the highly motivated and self-directed individual toward the completion of one major production in a style of their choosing. It is designed for someone with an existing passion or topic idea that they want to make a film about. Estimated Time to Complete: Two Years LEVEL TWO builds on Level One by allowing students to experiment with different styles of filmmaking before undertaking major productions of their own. It is designed for the person who is open to where their interest in film might lead over time and who wishes to create multiple works for a portfolio. Estimated Time to Complete: Three Years LEVEL THREE builds on Level Two by integrating the 16mm format into the learning experience. It is designed for those who aspire to move back and forth between traditional and contemporary forms in their work, demonstrating the ability to tell stories in a number of different ways. Estimated Time to Complete: Four Years |
