The Student Academy Awards, created
and supported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
and the Academy Foundation, seeks to encourage and recognize
outstanding student filmmaking.
The Northwest Film Center coordinates the selection process for
Region One, which includes students enrolled in colleges and universities in Alaska,
California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana,Nevada, Oregon, Washington
and Wyoming.
Preliminary judging will begin shortly after the entry deadline by a jury assembled by the Northwest Film Center that will include a mix of filmmakers, film academicians and critics. Submissions will be narrowed to up to six Regional Finalists per category (narrative, experimental, animation, documentary) that will be judged at a public screening. Up to three Regional Finalists in each category will proceed to the National Finals, which will be judged by Academy members throughout the month of May. National winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in Los Angeles in June.
